Specimen Type: Platelet-Free Plasma
Container Type: Light-blue-top tube (sodium citrate)
Required Volume: Full tube 4.5 mL Whole Blood (2 mL Serum or Plasma)
Minimum Volume (Pediatric): Full tube 2.7 mL Whole Blood, or 1.8 mL blood, depending on size of tube used
Methodology: Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET)
Components: ADAMTS-13 Activity and ADAMTS-13 inhibitor screen(reflex). If activity is low, reflex to ADAMTS-13 inhibitor screen. Inhibitor screen can also be run together with activity upon request.
Standard Run Times: ADAMTS-13 activity: once per weekday. Weekend, please call 650 723 4813 to confirm. ADAMTS-13 inhibitor screen: batched, once/week, urgent test upon request
Turnaround Time: Day of run
Special Handling: Within 1 hour of collection, centrifuge tube to obtain platelet-poor plasma. The plasma is transferred to a plastic tube to be spun a second time to remove the platelet and obtain platelet-free plasma. Aliquot platelet-free plasma into plastic tubes (2 aliquots). Freeze immediately. CRITICAL FROZEN
