Special Handling: Transport at room temperature. Plasma must be sent frozen on dry ice. Inpatient samples must be received and centrifuged in the lab within 60 minutes. Outpatient samples must be received in the lab within 90 minutes of draw.

Causes For Rejection: Specimen is clotted, not collected in the correct anticoagulant, tube not filled to within +/- 10% of proper volume, specimen not received within acceptable time limits, frozen plasma received thawed, specimen not labeled properly, patient's hematocrit greater than 55% and the anticoagulant has not been adjusted.
