RESULT
Test Name : HIV-1 Antiviral Resistance Testing, Protease and Reverse-Transcriptase, Plasma Order Code : AVRT
Synonyms: Human Immunodeficiency Virus Genotype, HIV Genotype, HIV Genotyping, HIV Antiviral Susceptibility
Specimen Type: Plasma
Container Type: Yellow-top tube Acid Citrate Dextrose Solution A (ACD); Lavender-top tube (EDTA)
Required Volume: 7 mL whole blood; 3 mL plasma
Minimum Volume (Pediatric): 3 mL whole blood; 1 mL plasma
Methodology: Methods include: RNA extraction, reverse transcription, PCR amplification (protease and RT regions), DNA purification and dideoxynucleotide terminator cycle sequencing. Sequences obtained are compared to a susceptible consensus B strain. Drug resistance associated mutations are reported with physician interpretation for all approved anti-retroviral drugs that target the HIV protease and reverse transcriptase enzymes. Phylogenetic analysis and subtype are also included in the analysis.
Standard Run Times: Varies
Turnaround Time: 7-14 days
Special Handling: Store whole blood at 2-25C for no more than 6 hours. Centrifuge and transfer plasma to a separate tube within 6 hours of collection. Transport plasma refrigerated. If transport is greater than 2 days, transport plasma frozen.
