Synonyms: Kidney Stone, Stone Risk, Crystal
Specimen Type: Urine
Container Type: Urine Cup
Required Volume: 40 mL
Minimum Volume (Pediatric): 30 mL
Methodology: Enzymatic; Enzymatic using Oxalate Oxidase; Freezing Point Depression; High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC); Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) Emission Spectroscopy; Molybdic Acid; pH Meter; Potentiometric, Indirect Ion-Selective Electrode (ISE); Enzymatic Colorimetric Assay; Uricase
Components: Supersaturation Random, U;Sodium, Random, U; Potassium, Random, U; Calcium, Random, U; Magnesium, Random, U; Chloride, Random, U; Phosphorus, Pediatric, Random, U; Sulfate, Random, U Citrate Excretion, Peds, Random, U; Oxalate, Pediatric, Random, U; pH, Random, U; Uric Acid, Random, U; Creatinine, Random, U; Osmolality, Random, U; Ammonium, Random, U
Turnaround Time: 5 days
Special Handling: 1. Collect a random urine specimen and divide the urine into 6 tubes. **Aliquot specimen as follows for shipping: Place 10mL in each of 2 plastic 10-mL urine tubes. Place 5mL in each of 4 plastic, 5-mL urine tubes. 2. Refrigerate specimen after collection. Specimen pH should be between 4.5 and 8 and will stay in this range if kept refrigerated. Specimens with pH over 8 indicate bacterial contamination and testing will be canceled. Do not attempt to adjust pH as it will adversely affect results.
