Note: Regardless of whether patient is fasting or not, lab will still accept lipid specimen and run them. Phlebotomist needs to alert the chemistry team that specimens were collected under non-fasting conditions.

Container Type: Mint-top gel tube (Lithium heparin) or SST Gold-top tube
Required Volume: 1 mL whole blood
Minimum Volume (Pediatric): 0.6 mL (1 full microtainer) whole blood
Methodology: Spectrophotometric (Colorimetric)
Components: Total Cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol, LDL Cholesterol (direct), Non-HDL Cholesterol, Cholesterol/HDL Ratio, Triglycerides
Standard Run Times: 24 hours/7 days a week
Turnaround Time: 24 hours/next day
Special Handling: The patient should be fasting for at least 8 hours prior to sample collection. Specimens must be centrifuged within 2 hours of collection. After centrifugation, specimens are stable for 7 days at 2 to 8°C.
