Specimen Type: 1. Stool specimens from patients with acute onset of community-acquired diarrhea. OR, 2. Stool specimens from patients with possible hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
Container Type: 1. Stool specimen in a clean container. OR, 2. Stool specimen inoculated in a GN Broth.
Required Volume: 1 gram or 1 mL
Minimum Volume (Pediatric): 1 gram or 1 mL
Methodology: Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
Standard Run Times: Daily
Turnaround Time: 1-2 days
Special Handling: Send specimens to Lab as soon as possible. Refrigerate if specimens can't be processed immediately. Specimens should not be held more than 24 hours unpreserved, or more than 48 hours in transport media.
