Special Handling: Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) following an overnight (12-14 hour) fast. Patient must not consume any alcohol or ingest vitamin supplements for 24 hours before the specimen is drawn. (Serum gel tube is not acceptable.) Spin down and send 1.5 mL of serum frozen in plastic vial. Protect specimen from prolonged exposure to light.
