FACTOR VIII, VON WILLEBRAND FACTOR, RISTOCETIN CO-FACTOR

Test Code: RIST
Description: The Ristocetin Co-Factor activity is a functional assay for vW factor (vWF). vWFis secreted from endothelial cells and promotes platelet adhesion to the site of vessel injury by attaching to the glycoprotein Ib/IX (GPIb/IX) platelet receptor. vWF also stabilizes and protects factor VIII. Von Willebrand disease is the most common inherited bleeding disorder. Levels of vWF are lower in blood type O patients (as compared to blood types A, B, or AB).
Indications: Bleeding disorder, suspected von Willebrand disease
