Enumeration of circulating CD4+ T-cells is an essential component of monitoring patients with immunodeficiencies including HIV infection, as their numbers correlate with susceptibility to opportunistic infection. In addition to enumeration of CD3+/CD4+ and CD3+/CD8+ T-cells, enumeration of CD19+ B cells and NK cells (CD3-negative, CD16/CD56+) are included, and permit comprehensive evaluation of all major lymphocyte subsets. |
